Two Days in May
In one short weekend this month
our family will observe two significant events back to back--our son Pete's
21st birthday and our daughter Lis' graduation from college. Have you ever
seen one of those "How do you feel today?" charts with 70 different
facial expressions depicting the range of emotions we experience? I could
circle quite a few faces on that chart this month. Let me describe four
of them.
Shocked--I can't believe how quickly we arrived at this point. I distinctly remember two little children, light as a feather to pick up and swing around. All I did was blink and they turned into two young adults.
Happy--It is always fun to celebrate
with children and young people as they move through the stages of life towards
more independence and responsibility--especially when they're yours.
Optimistic--While we live in a dangerous and hostile world in many ways, and as parents it is our job to have some anxiety over this, we also see great potential and many wonderful possibilities. As we look to the future, we are excited about our kids--their hearts for God, their desires, their abilities. We believe God has good things in store for each of them.
Grateful--Marcia and I thank God for the privilege and the blessing of being parents to the two very special people He gave us. He has used them to shape our lives forever, as He has worked through us to help shape theirs.
God is so good.
